The Kerry Bog Pony Co Operative Society Autumn Inspections took place on September 22nd in Athlone, by kind permission of Willie and Maura Naughton, Cappaheuse, Ballydangan, Athlone, Co. Westmeath.

On the day, 5 ponies came out to inspection - 3 stallions, 1 filly and 1 gelding.  Luckily the threatened rain held off and it was a good day.  The vet was James Linnane. The Inspectors were Pascal Crawford and Denise Colebrooke. They commented "The ponies displayed great temprament and character but need to be well prepared for the day to allow them achieve their best grade". The results were disapointing but very fair.  There were one Class 1, two Class 2 and two Class 3 ponies.

The new Inspection sheets, introduced this year on foot of the Judges Seminar held at the end of last year, provided detailed comments from both inspectors. This feedback shows owners what they have done well and also where they could improve. Unfortunately, all to often these comments highlighted a lack of preparation for the Inspection procedure - ponies not standing for inspection or not trotting on and showing off their action properly.

As always, Willie and Maura Naughton provided a great welcome.  The soup and sandwiches provided after the Inspections were most appreciated by all.
