2018 Kerry Bog Pony National Show

With very large entries in most classes on Sunday, the Kerry Bog Pony National Show proved to be a major sucess.  Moving the show to the midlands, and displaying the ponies in the context of other Rare Breeds, brought a different dynamic to the show.

The move to the centre of the country also resulted in a large increase in young people exhibiting.  The Young Handler, Lead Rein and First Ridden classes were some of the biggest classes on the day. It was very encouraging to see children exhibiting and enjoying their ponies.

The show began with a Mounted Games display by Milly Fortune on Carrowmurragh Lad and Jennifer Newell on Tramena Fiona. It was a great opportunity to show the public how versatile the ponies are.  It was also very exciting to watch as well!

Sponsored by Horse Sport Ireland, the Mare classes were well supported.  There were also good entries in the Youngstock and Gelding classes.  The subsequent Show Championship, sponsored by John and Olive Mulvihill of the Red Fox inn in Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry, was won by Royal Glen Louise,  the winner of the 6yr old and older mare class.  Reserve Champion was Clahane Legend, the 2018 foal out of Bog Jessie by Knocknagowan Moss, owned by John O'Shea. John was breeder of both the Champion and the Reserve Champion in the Show..
