National Mare Championship 2017

The third running of Kerry Bog Pony National Mare Championship took place at the Kerry Bog Pony National show which was held on Sunday 20th August in Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry. The championship was run in conjunction with the Irish Shows Association and mares had to qualify at one of the selected regional shows around the country to take part in this final.

Sponsored by The Irish Sporthorse Studbook, the generous prizefund for this class was divided to reward both the breeders and the owners of the competing mares.

Vincent O'Driscoll's winning mare, Hot Bunny, by Quagmire Jasper, sucessfully defended her title, having been the Champion last year and the reserve champion the year before. Judge, Jane Darragh, from Co. Kilkenny, gave the competitors every chance to show their ponies well, and took the time to have a few words with all the handlers after the judging.
